Our Grantees

The purpose of the capacity-building program is to support the development of stronger, more resilient community-based nonprofit organizations to serve the community effectively and meaningfully.

Capacity building funds are designed to strengthen community-based nonprofit organizations by helping them improve internal governance and leadership, cultivate strategic community linkages, and develop financial and human resources for long-term stability. Building organizational capacity is a long-term, evolutionary process.

Grant Recipients participate in a Capacity Building Program that includes:

  • A diagnostic assessment at the beginning of the grant year to evaluate current conditions and determine capacity building priorities; and again at the end of the grant year to evaluate program outcomes.
  • A prioritized organizational development plan to address assessment findings.
  • Individualized training and/or external training opportunities, as needed.
  • Coaching and consulting in the organizational areas that have been selected to be strengthened.
  • Interaction and development with key staff or volunteers and board members.
  • Peer Learning/Networking.
  • Targeted funding to support an area of the developmental plan.

Participating organizations establish a “leadership team” that includes three to four (3 - 4) people in a combination of staff or volunteers and board members.  The ideal team would be two (2) staff and/or volunteers and two (2) board members.  Members of this leadership team attend meetings and trainings, meet with consultants, as appropriate, and are fully invested in the success of the project.
